Why has Cisco acquired Ensoft?

In a blog by Rob Salvagno, Vice president of corporate development at Cisco, he said this deal was taking place to “further our commitment to simplify service provider networks through automation and programmability”.

“Cisco’s networking software strategy is centred on enabling simplified, scalable, trusted, and automatable IP network infrastructure.” The Ensoft acquisition will ideally accelerate this strategy and benefit their service provider customers greatly. With Ensoft comes a strong talent pipeline that will aid Cisco’s ongoing innovation in networking software.
