Ophir Energy plc was an oil and gas exploration and production company based in London. It owned both operating and non-operating assets in Africa, Asia, and Mexico. Since our enegagement, Ophir Energy was acquired by Medco Energi Global PTE Ltd.
Ophir Energy had oil and gas production facilities across the globe. Each of these locations had hardware with hugely differing bespoke configurations that were connected via satellite, cellular devices, leased lines, MPLS, and microwave. The issue was that they needed a way to monitor the WAN but this had proved difficult to do well because of all the varying connection methods. They had tried several tools in the past, only to find that they would only cater to two or three of the connection methods. So for us, the challenge was to enable WAN monitoring with a consistent level of service across all their locations and connections. They chose Tesrex because of our ability to explore technology and perform research and development on new products in the market to ascertain what they are capable of achieving.
We began this engagement by sitting down with the IT team at Ophir and collating all of their needs. It became clear that a potential solution to meet their needs was a product that we had already been experimenting with, LiveAction. This product was built around the concept of providing advanced network monitoring while catering for a large number of different configurations and mediums. What made this better was that LiveAction have a close working relationship with Cisco. Ophir Energy were already a Cisco heavy organisation and so the integrations were relatively simple. We agreed with Ophir Energy to perform a Proof of Concept on a handful of their sites.
The main thing that Ophir Energy were so happy with was that we had provided a solution that encompassed every single one of their connection types. We also mapped out their entire Quality of Service (QoS) chain throughout the entire WAN. When we sat down with them to review what we had done we were able to watch a packet go from one location to a production facility, back to another administration facility in real-time. We were able to see what QoS taggings were honoured through the different LAN and WAN providers. This is something that the IT team were not anticipating and so naturally, were very pleased about.
