PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk or Medco Energi is a publicly listed Indonesian oil and gas company. They have many locations across the globe responsible for the exploration, extraction and refinery of oil and gas.

The Challenge

We were introduced to Medco Energi began because of our previous engagements with Ophir Energy who has just been acquired by Medco Energi. The customer had made multiple acquisitions in a short time period. This presented an immediate challenge when it came to technology licensing of the new businesses that had been brought into the fold. Every device they owned throughout the world was licensed through its own contract and Cisco Smartnet coverage was extremely scattered. Managing the end dates and renewals had become impossible. They came to us and asked if we could help them sort and organise everything they had into one single contract which would make future acquisitions much simpler.

The Solution

We began this engagement by performing our Cisco Licensing Review with a heavier focus on their Cisco Smartnet estate. After getting written permission from the customer, we worked with Cisco to comb through every license and Smartnet subscription they were paying for. We then looked at which devices Medco Energi were still using and put them into a single contract with a single cost, renewal date and purchase order. We turned all of that round for them in two weeks. This resulted in large cost savings for Medco Energi. We mapped out all of their devices to each individual location so they knew which ones no longer needed to be renewed because sites were being merged together.

  • We mapped out all the licenses and Smartnet subscriptions they were paying for.
  • Showed them which subscriptions were no longer being used.
  • Consolidated their entire Smartnet estate into one manageable contract.
